Harley so happy to be going home

Harley and Mr. RobinsonOn June 7th, 2011 The Ontario County Humane Society recieved a call from the landfill in the town of Seneca for a stray dog at the location. The dog was skittish and the workers couldn't get near him, but they were concerned for his safety. Our officers headed down to try and catch the scared dog, but the dog wasn't about to trust these two scarey looking men, so the officers had to set a trap to catch the poor boy. The next morning the dog in question was in the trap. Our officers brought in the big lab mix and discovered he had an invisable fence collar on. After two days of being here, our scared dog calmed down enough for us to be able to get the collar off. Invisable fence has a tracking number on them, so we proceeded to call the invisable fence people with the number. At first we had no luck, the area representative said there was nothing in their database. This guy was such a sweetie, surely someone must be missing him, so we tried a different area, and they said they would get back to us, or have the owner call if they could find anything. A few hours later we recieved a phone call from James Robinson a gentleman who had lost his dog August 21rst of 2010 from Wellsburg (a town near Elmira). Now we were not quite sure, how this collar got on this dog, or how if it was his dog he got all the way from Elmira to Hopewell, but we thought we would at least try and see if it was his dog. Mr. Robinson said he was willling to travel to physically ID his dog, Harley. The next day Saturday, June 11th Mr. Robinson came into the building, Harley didn't recognize him at first, but what a reaction when he realized it was his "dad". We couldn't have ever expected that a dog gone that long, or that great a distance would be alive, let alone be reunited with his owner. Thankfully, he had his invisable fence collar on, thankfully, he had not lost it. Mr. Robinson is going to have Harley microchipped when he gets home, he is also going to never let Harley out again without supervision. If not for us being able to track that collar, Mr. Robinson would have never known what happened to Harley and this story would not have a happy ending for both of them. Please, Please keep ID on your dog, whether it is an invisable fence collar, a microchip, a license tag, or and ID tag, miracles can happen, dogs are resilent, dont give up hope. We are so glad that there is this happy tale to tell you.
