Cody, The Great Hunter (well almost)
Cody, a 17 month old neutered male Brittany Spaniel, became a member
of our family after spending 36 days at the Ontario County Humane Society.
I had seen his picture in the paper and thought about him all week long
because the thought of getting a companion for our older Brittany had
been discussed from time to time. On the weekend I took some donations
to the Humane Society and asked if "the Brittany" was still
there. When he was brought out for me to meet him he immediately greeted
and kissed me, then spent his time wistfully looking out the front door.
While I was there another couple came in to see "the Brittany" so
I left thinking that they would adopt him. I spent the next weekend telling
all my friends how close I had come to getting another dog.
A friend encouraged me to call the Humane Society the following Monday to ask if "the Brittany" was still there. When I found out that he had not been adopted, my husband and I discussed the pros and cons of bringing a new dog into a home with a nine-year-old very spoiled female dog.
We made the decision to adopt, and now our female Brittany is learning to share her space with our very friendly and fortunately very well behaved new addition. Cody is now enjoying twice a day walks on the golf course where we live and has started training to hunt pheasants and quail. We are going to begin obedience training also. Cody is a sweet, loving and affectionate young dog who has given us so much enjoyment and pleasure in the six short weeks that he has been with us. We are absolutely delighted that he was available to us and that we made the decision to bring him into our home. PS -- The most important thing I have learned about walking two dogs on two leashes is that you must tie your shoelaces in double knots before you start out!
